“Yes.”
He hesitated.
“Did you help her?”
“She helped herself. We gave her support.”
Dad nodded.
Then he looked around the cafeteria.
For most of my life, I had wanted him to see my work.

“I was wrong about this,” he said.
“About teaching?”
“About you.”
I looked at him.
